Women And Their Workplace

Why is gender equality important? For so many obvious reasons, equality between sexes is highly important for the world to function well. Although many consider men as the stronger sex, many women do not really accept this definition. It is true that most men in the world are bigger and sturdier than women. This is the main reason why gender inequality surfaces. When one sex believes that its strength or position is far better than the other then the issue of inequality arises.

Gender inequality is one of the effects of cultural beliefs as well as societal prejudice. This is one of the oldest issues through out many centuries. The world of business specifically in the workplace is a common home to gender inequality. So many issues concerning inequality between co-workers especially women exist in the workplace. Women have been in the work force for so many years. Issues that usually lead to discrimination among women in business usually include her ability to rise in the ranking system. Ever wonder why millions of companies worldwide only have men as presidents or CEO's? This is most probably because of the fact that there are invisible barriers that hinder women's abilities to rise from its ranks.

Before, women were only found at home doing chores and leaving the money making to the men. After many years of women empowerment, women's rights have been changed for the better. As society becomes more adept of the fact that women are capable of everything, sexual discrimination of women in business is gradually decreasing. Women have proven to be a man's equal. In fact, millions of women are starting and governing their own businesses. This clearly proves and contradicts the image of women as victims fraught against workplace discrimination. In the olden times, women where never permitted to do business.

Gender inequality in the workplace can happen in many ways.  It may occur during the hiring process when men are hired rather than women with equal skills and experiences.  It can be seen in employment benefits such as the number of vacation or training a male or female worker receives. Despite these sexual discriminations within the world of business, both men and women are seeing a lighter view in gender inequality. As the number of human rights advocates have risen, the more people are being educated about equity. However, some cultural views regarding gender roles cannot be changed there are still advocates of equality who are slowly working towards a goals for equality between sexes.

Gender equality can be best started at home. If people do not want inequality between sexes then education about equity should start at their own homes. If it can be prevented at home, then inequality in the workplace and anywhere in society can be prevented. Gender inequality always starts with insensitivity. If someone believes he or she is greater than the other in terms of gender, then he might have been uneducated. Education and cultural awareness is the only key to promoting gender equality and ending gender inequality in the workplace especially among women.
